NATIONALITY: JAPANESE
DATE OF BIRTH: 2 MARCH 1975

2006 Remains with Yamaha Motor Italia in WSBK alongside Pitt for what is expected to be a full-on title attack, but the year starts disastrously when he falls - and takes out friend Yukio Kagayama - while the pair are fighting for victory on the last lap of the season-opening race at Qatar. Remains consistent but only takes one race win, at round 8 of 12, and so is helpless to stop the relentless title charge of Troy Bayliss. Takes a total of 11 podiums but loses out on second in the championship to James Toseland at the final round.

2005 Moves back to Yamaha with the factory backed Yamaha Motor Italia World Superbike team alongside Andrew Pitt. Makes slow start to season as he adjusts and develops the R1, costing him any championship hopes, but wins race two at Brno (round seven) then finishes on the podium (with a further win at Brand Hatch) in all but one of remaining 9 races. Third in championship behind Corser and Vermeulen.

2004 Returns to WSBK once again after signing to ride for the British based Renegade Ducati team alongside Leon Haslam. Battles with James Toseland, Regis Laconi and Chris Vermeulen for the title to come a final third in the standings.

2003 Signs to ride the Aprilia RS Cube in MotoGP alongside Colin Edwards, but rarely looks comfortable on the often troublesome cosworth powered racer. Finishes season 14th in standings, with a best finish of 8th at the wet/dry French GP.

2002 Moved back to the WSBK series with Aprilia after a difficult year in MotoGP on a two-stroke, but despite many podiums was unable to take a race win.

2001 Competed in the 500cc (MotoGP) World Championship with the Red Bull Yamaha WCM team - finished joint 14th with 59 points.

2000 Second in the World Superbikes championship with Yamaha. 315 points.

1999 Raced in the World Superbikes Championship with Yamaha.

Raced in the Suzuka eight hours with Yamaha's World Superbike Rider Colin Edward II. Became the youngest pairing ever to win the event and set a track record.

1995 Raced in the AJRR.

1994 Moved up to the Superbike class and was classified ninth in the series.

1993 First year in the professional ranks. Raced in the 250cc All Japan Championship
1980 Began racing pocket bikes.
